Traveling in Philadelphia can be overwhelming. Not only is it tiring to walk through an unfamiliar place (especially during the summer months!), but deciding which attractions to go to can also be frustrating. Philadelphia offers a plethora of sights, sounds, and smells including, and deciding what to do first can be difficult. Should you follow the crowds and head to see the Liberty Bell? Or perhaps you should go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to view their large collection of medieval art and armor. Hungry? A Philly Cheese Steak is a must have, but should it take precedence over the hundreds of pubs, grills and upscale restaurants the city has to offer? With all these choices it's easy to let stress ruin a vacation. The good news is that Philadelphia also offers several inventive options for seeing the city and getting an idea of where the most popular venues are before you start your sightseeing.

Double Decker bus tours are a popular way to see the city. The open top and two stories will be a hit with the kids, and give Mom and Dad a chance to relax. The buses make stops at twenty different popular attractions. Guests are invited to ride for the entire 90-minute tour, or hop on and off as they reach the sites that peak their interest. Tickets are good for an entire day, and prices start from $10 for children and $27 for adults.

Another family friendly option is to take a "Duck Tour." The tour takes place on a Duck...originally a vehicle used in World War II. These vehicles were created to operate on land or water, and while they were originally made for the United States Army, a Philadelphia company has found a way to make them educational and fun. The 70-80 minute tour includes a ride through historic Philadelphia, giving guests a chance to see the important historical and current event sites. Part of the tour includes a ride on the Delaware River. The length and nature of the Duck tour is designed to give an overview of the important things to see and do in Philadelphia, without taking a huge amount of time. It is recommended to buy tickets in advance, and ticket prices start at $15 for children and $25 for adults.

For another unique sightseeing opportunity, travelers might consider a Segway® tour. These tours take place on a Segway® Human Transporter, an innovative method of transportation that is a sort of gliding scooter. The tours are designed to give an overview of the city, and small tour sizes make it easy to ask questions about specific locations. Tours run all day and also have the option of an evening tour in the event that guests will want to view the city at sunset. Tours last 90 minutes, and include safety training in order to get comfortable with the machine. Prices are a little steeper than some tours, with tickets starting at $50. There is also a minimum age of thirteen, which makes it difficult for families with small children. The tour is probably best suited to individuals or couples, or families with older children.

City tours are a great way to get your bearings and decide which attractions you will be most excited about, so no matter which option you choose, city tours help you get the most out of your vacation.
